Lufkin Chooses Cullman For New Facility!

In 2002, Lufkin Industries, Inc. is celebrating 100 years of service.

Also, in 2002, Cullman and Cullman County officials celebrated the announcement of Lufkin Industries' choice of Cullman, Alabama for their newest facility.  

Cullman County Commission Chairman Norman "Pete" Tucker proudly wore a new "Lufkin" cap, reminiscent of a new basketball player chosen in the draft as he welcomed Lufkin Industries to Cullman County.  He told officials of the company, "the first thing we do in Cullman County is take care of the people here. Now that you are here, we'll take care of you.  Today's announcement is, a high caliber company chose a high caliber county," Tucker said. 

 Mayor Don Green of Cullman joined the County Chairman in welcoming "our new friends" to Cullman. "Cullman and Cullman County, like Lufkin promotes quality and service. You made a good choice," Green said.  "As your mayor, I pledge the City of Cullman will help you with the transition," Green continued. 

Mayor Green pointed out that the local school system continues to rank in the top ten in the state and students rank above the national average.

Lufkin Vice President Jay Glick said Cullman and Lufkin, Texas shared many similarities, such as both had good colleges.  Wallace State College was mentioned as a factor in the choice. 

Mr. Glick said the new facility would serve ten states.

Lufkin will construct a new building at the City of Cullman Industrial Park #II.

Also on Hand to welcome the new company were the Cullman City Council, Cullman city and county industrial development boards, city and county public departments, Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Cullman County's legislative delegation, North Alabama Industrial Development Association, Cullman Airport and local utilities.
