Welcome to Hanceville! The City of Hanceville was founded on May 28, 1879. Located in North-Central Alabama less than 10 miles from Interstate 65, Hanceville is the second largest city in Cullman County, AL, with a population of around 3,000.

Governed by a Mayor and five-member City Council, Hanceville offers full police protection, fire protection and sanitation services to all of its citizens. Sewer services are also available.

The City of Hanceville offers numerous annual events sponsored through various civic organizations. The Mud Creek Festival, an event that spotlights area High School marching bands, and the annual Christmas Parade sponsored by the Hanceville Civitan Club on the first Saturday in December are but a few of the events favored by locals.

Hanceville School is a Class A accredited institution with elementary, middle and secondary schools. In the realm of higher education, Hanceville is home to Wallace State College, one of the finest community colleges in the southeast. WSC provides an opportunity for degree programs or technical training to over 7,000 students, and its library and recreational facilities are a huge asset to both students and the citizens of Hanceville. WSC's library offers the Family and Regional History Program, a genealogy program specializing in resource materials on Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Wallace was the first non-Mormon institution to be allowed to become an LDS Family History Center. The City of Hanceville also has its own branch of the Cullman County Public Library System.

A host of retail shopping outlets and restaurants are available in the city, as well as medical and dental offices, assisted living facilities and a nursing home. A 120-room motel will soon be constructed in the city as well.
