COMMISSION MEETING

May 8, 2006

 

 

CALL TO ORDER AND WELCOME

A regular meeting of the Cullman County Commission was held Monday, May 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., in the County Commission Office Conference Room, Chairman Kitchens called the meeting to order and welcomed all visitors and West Point Middle School Honor Society.

 

CALL OF ROLL TO ESTABLISH QUORUM, INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Present were Chairman Wiley Kitchens, Commissioner Doug Williams, and Commissioner Stanley Yarbrough. Attorney Dan Willingham gave the invocation and Mr. George Mann led the pledge of allegiance.

 

APPROVE MINUTES, APPROPRIATIONS, EXPENDITURES, REQUISITIONS, TRAVEL EXPENSE AND ALL JOURNAL ENTRIES TO BE POSTED

Commissioner Yarbrough made the motion to approve minutes, appropriations, expenditures, requisitions, travel expense and all journal entries to be posted.  Commission Williams seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Mike Henderson – Questions concerning the easement for the 63 acres adjacent to his property.

Jane Pfiefer – Addressed the commission about County Road 537.

John Glover – Addressed the commission concerning the increased traffic on County Road 208.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

a.      Consider acceptance of County Road 1407 and 1405 in Cotton Row Estates located in District 3.

Commission Williams made the motion to accept County Road 1407 and County Road 1405 into the county maintenance system. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.  

b.      Consider release of $200,000.00 surety bond for Clear Water Coves Subdivision and acceptance of the roads (County Roads 2015, 2016 and 2017) located in district 2.

Commissioner Yarbrough made the motion to release the surety bond for Clear Water Coves Subdivision and acceptance of roads located in district 2. Commissioner Williams seconded and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

c.       Consider Preliminary Plat for Ridgewood Subdivision located in District 3 off County Road 1545

Motion made and seconded to table this item.

d.      Resolution No. 2006-11 Speed Limit on County Road 208 set at 10 miles per hour.

Mr. Widner, County Engineer recommend to the commission to set a 10 MPH speed limit on County Road 208.

Commissioner Yarbrough made to motion to set the speed limit at 10 MPH on County Road 208. Commissioner Williams seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

e.      Bid No. 846 – Service for Sheriff’s and other various Depts. Vehicles

Commissioner Williams may the motion to award bid no. 846 to low bidder. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

f.        Bid No. 847 – Vertical Carousel Storage Unit

Commissioner Williams made the motion to accept Bid No. 847 for the Vertical Carousel storage Unit for the Commission Office. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

g.      Bid No. 848 – Mechanical Assit. Mobile storage System with Book Shelving

Commissioner Williams made the motion to accept the low bid for the Mechanical Assit. Mobile Storage System for the Sheriff’s Department. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

h.      Consider approval of rental agreement for postage metering machine for the Board of Education.

Commissioner Williams made the motion to authorize the Chairman to sign the rental agreement for the postage metering machine for the Board of Education. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

i.        Consider donation to the Arkadelphia Community Center.

Commissioner Yarbrough made the motion to authorize a $1,000.00 donation to the Arkadelphia Community Center. Commissioner Williams seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

j.        Consider donation to the East Point Community Center.

Commissioner Williams made the motion to authorize a $1,000.00 donation to the East Point Community Center. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded, and upon a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

NEXT COMMISSION MEETING MONDAY, MAY 22, 2006

Chairman Kitchens announced that the next Commission Meeting would be Monday, May 22, 2006 at 10:00 am in the Commission Office Conference Room.

Commissioner Williams made the motion to adjourn. Commissioner Yarbrough seconded.
